AC Installation in McKinney, TX

McKinney borders Frisco, Allen and Prosper and is on the northernmost edge of the DFW Metroplex. McKinney was recently named the 1# place to live in America by money magazine. It is often recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in DFW. As a result, a majority of the homes are new construction with natural gas furnaces and central air conditioning. Lex Air Conditioning provides same-day service to residents and businesses throughout McKinney, with contractors that live in the city.

Overview

In August of 2015, Lex Air was called in to help a McKinney homeowner experiencing a critical issue with their central air conditioning. Although the A/C was cooling the home, it wasn’t cooling to a temperature desired by the homeowner or programmed in the thermostat.

Problem

During an initial inspection and free service call, we determined the A/C was only a few years old, but needed replaced due to being undersized for the home. Under-sizing can be common in new homes, as builders attempt to save expense by installing a cooling system too small for the square footage. Most home inspections will find under-sizing issues before a new home purchase. With an undersized unit in the abusive Texas heat, parts and components can quickly wear down as the system is constantly running. Repairs are costly and the system tends to be too damaged, leaving replacement as the only option.

Solution

Ultimately, this McKinney resident chose Lex Air due to our experience as Trane Comfort Specialists. The final solution required a complete HVAC replacement and duct work modifications, to accommodate a larger air handler in the attic. For this homeowner’s budget and situation, we recommended a new Trane XV20i variable speed cooling and heating system.

Results

The end result, was a new high-efficiency cooling and heating system from Trane and a smart thermostat from Nexia. Energy Star approved with a SEER of 21, the homeowner will be able to experience a lower utilities bill and a home that is precisely cooled and heated throughout the season.
